PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

Watch for program updates!

The theme of WCSJ 2022 is reboot, and our vision is to mark a new starting point as we reinvent, rebuild, renew our community and connections. Within the program for the conference are five tracks:

  1. SCIENCE IMMERSION

From the deepest trenches in our oceans to the hottest archaeological and paleontological research, the latest in seed science and technology, a State-of-the-Art tour of fusion reactors and Latin America’s emerging space programs, these sessions will inspire, entertain and offer new source material for reporters.

  1. ON RESPONSIBLE REPORTING: Experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic

The task of informing audiences about health is always delicate, not just during the COVID-19 pandemic but beyond. We carry a huge responsibility in health reporting  — and in caring for ourselves. Here we share what we have learned and how we should move forward.

  1. NEW CHALLENGES TO EXPLORE

In a post-pandemic and climate-challenged world, what role do science journalists play in shaping public understanding of research among diplomats, policy makers and scientists? Also, how can we benefit from the special knowledge and emerging tools created by the insurance and reinsurance sector?

  1. NORTH/SOUTH: TOWARDS A NEW GLOBAL DIALOGUE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

With the WCSJ taking place in Colombia we have the golden opportunity to open a window to Latin America, Brazil and the Global South. Amazing science discoveries and studies mix with the enormous journalistic, environmental and social challenges in the region. In the end, it takes an entire planet to tackle them.

  1. OUR CRAFT: TOOLS OF THE TRADE

Honing our skills in an ever-changing profession is crucial; as we must adapt or perish. We believe creativity has never been in higher demand. Where will our next jobs come from? How do we get better at what we do and where do we go for help, support and ongoing training?
